Dayo the Cat

Dayo (he has his own board at Pinterest!) is an exceptionally affectionate cat and enjoys keeping me company and being in the garden. He makes me laugh frequently as he loves suddenly to jump rather high into trees and ricochet off surfaces including my body as he is a very playful cat.  He seems never to be too far from me and as I keep my camera close by, I am able to get some good photos.

The story of how we got him and how he got his name is as follows:

Mid-summer, 2011, a mother with her teenage daughter rang our doorbell asking if we wanted the three-month-old kitten in her arms. The Calm One said we will think about it, and I said yes as I felt I have sufficiently recovered from the prolonged illness and death of our beloved, twelve-year-old cat, Josie, who had died about a year previously from stomach cancer.

I thanked him for my wedding anniversary present which was a few days away and immediately brought Dayo in. I resumed working at my computer for a minute or so and Dayo jumped up on the keyboard and typed out deo888xx. Obviously a super intelligent feline and since he is French, deo would be pronounced Dayo--I insist on adding the 888xx when we go to the Vet, after all, he took the trouble of typing out his full name. Upon hearing our new cat's name, the Calm One broke out singing the Banana Boat song which is repeated when Dayo is called in at night.

  1. As good a randomly derived name as any bank could invent... "Come Mister Tally Man, tally me bananas..."

  2. Hey, nice story. How is it, that some people don't love cats? Makes no sense.
